- Christmas turkey
A very common tradition is to eat turkey on the very day of Christmas. Usually, people serve it with cabbage, but there may also be vine leaves, fermented veggies, cheese pastry, etc. It’s important to have meat on the 25th because it’s the first day after the Nativity fast and one can consume meat products. 2. Kapama
Even if it doesn’t sound familiar to you, you’ll most likely recognize this meal. It’s mostly called this way on the Balkans – Greece, Bulgaria and other countries. Basically, kapama consist of fermented cabbage (a.k.a. sauerkraut), mince, vine leaves stuffed with meat, sausage and bacon. Of course, this is what the perfect kapama is made of. Other variations may or may not include any of these products.
3. Christ's bread
This one is a must when it comes to the holiday table! People tend to put a lot of love and passion into making this bread, because it’s somehow sacred. They often even decorate it with different prayers from Jesus Christ’s birth. There are also other decoration ideas like branches, birds, leaves and so on. 4. Goodies
What is a Christmas without some sweets?! As this holiday is in the end of the year when it’s cold outside, this definitely makes us long for more desserts. Of course, let’s not forget about baklava, which puts the final touch to this very special holiday feast!
