Many people think of beef as something
old and
stringy, but what they don’t know is that there’s a
significant difference between beef and veal. In fact, to be able to distinguish those two types of meat is very important! This knowledge would benefit not only our nutritional habits, but also our financial state.
So, to help you know things better, today we’re going to
throw some light on the topic.

- Age
Veal is a type of meat that comes from young calves at the age of 6-7 months. The younger the animal, the brighter the meat’s color would be. However, we need to mention that this doesn’t depend on the animal’s sex or race.
On the other hand,
beef is the meat from older cows that are from 18 to 24 months old. The word “beef” itself represents this fact. Generally, there are two types of beef – young and old. The first one is produced from young brutes (at least 18 months old), while the old beef comes from animals that are over 2 years old. It usually finds its place in the meat processing industry mainly for sausages.
- Taste
When it comes to taste veal is considered to be
lighter, with fine structure and more water content than beef. Actually, most of the athletes and fitness lovers prefer it because of the less fat content.
In contrast, beef is popular for its
denser and
intense taste. It normally goes through a maturing process in order to gain its specific delicacy and exquisite taste. This meat is super rich in proteins, potassium, sodium and vitamins E, K, B6, B12. There are also minerals like iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, selenium, which makes it great for pregnant women and children.
- Nutrition
Another thing that distinguishes the two meat types is the way of feeding. Of course, the meat with the highest quality is the one that comes from
outdoor bred animals. Why? Well, the cows that feed themselves outside usually consume grass, which is good.
Another meat you can trouble-freely eat is from animals that have been fed in
certified ECO locations. This means that people don’t use any fertilizers, pesticides or genetic modifications over the grasslands. What’s more, the animals are not vaccinated or injected with antibiotics, growth hormones or other related stuff.
